My dogs always need a bath after they swim in the lake. I find their smell unendurable. The hose in my front yard is connected only to the cold water service, and the dogs don't like it. Does anyone know of a way to clean them without having them track lake muck through the house?
I make a serious effort to keep mine out of the lake in the first place. When I fail, they get hosed off and washed on the front stoop, so the smell doesn't get into the house.
The temperature in an issue, though. They go to the park less in flea and tick season, so that means they go more in the early spring and late fall. Since the outside water supply is cold only, that means they get a COLD bath.
Since they get the bath every time they go in the lake, perhaps some negative behavior mod is going on - they certainly go in the lake less than they used to.
